The Rhine Dam

To the east of Emerald City is a dam which holds back some of the flow of the Rhine River and divert it to other exit rivers upstream. This was done to lower the width of the river, making it easier to build the two bridges crossing the Rhine. The amount of water coming from the east also varies based on season, peaking in spring, and the dam compensates for it.

Since the building of the Rhine Dam, some of the area that used to be part of the river has been used to build low-income housing.

The dam is owned by the Rhine family who oversee its upkeep and maintenance in return for money from the city. The dam also serves as a source of running water, as an alternative to a water tower. A water treatment plant is located at the plant for this purpose.
