Protectors of Emerald City
Blackrock Mountain is an active volcano south of Emerald City. The mountain itself is made of Cinereal, a dark grey stone that is extremely difficult to penetrate unless heated excessively, at which point it is about as hard as normal stone. It erupted a century ago, covering the already dark Cinereal in black obsidian, giving the mountain its modern name.
Remote sensing technology found Blackrock Mountain is rich in heavily sought materials like platinum, rhodium, and palladium. With this in mind, drilling techniques were designed that made use of high temperatures to penetrate through the Cinereal of Blackrock Mountain. Though costly, this technique allows a mine at Blackrock Mountain to operate. Some question the wisdom of running a mine in an active volcano, but no laws prohibit it, and the company turns a nice profit. Foreman Fred is in charge of the mine’s operations. A decade ago there were rumors that a small amount of Adamantite was found in this mine.
